Lachenmann Perspektiven Vol. 2–AIR

Vol. 2 of the 7-part DVD series »Lachenmann Perspectives« features »Air. Music for Orchestra with Percussion Solo in the version with reduced strings, which Helmut Lachenmann specifically created for Ensemble Modern.

The DVD documents sectional rehearsals by Ensemble Modern with Brad Lubman conducting, accompanied by comments from Helmut Lachenmann. From this material, four films of approximately 20 minutes each were created (in the combinations of «winds/strings/percussion, keyboard and plucked instruments/percussion solo”).

At the end of the DVD, there is a recording of the world premiere of this version from November 27, 2015, at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, on the occasion of the composer’s 80th birthday, complemented by excerpts from the introductory discussion before the concert.

The DVD booklet provides a detailed description of the entire project, a short report by filmmaker Wiebke Pöpel, a comprehensive work description by Helmut Lachenmann, as well as biographical information about the performers.
