SWR Vokalensemble
The SWR Radio Choir is one of the top international ensembles among professional choirs. Since its founding in 1946, the SWR Vokalensemble has created more than 250 new compositions, constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible. The instrumental sound culture and vocal as well as stylistic flexibility of the vocal ensemble are unparalleled and inspire audiences, conductors and composers alike.
More than 250 works have been written for the SWR Vocal Ensemble over the past decades, and new ones are added every year. In addition to contemporary music, the SWR Vokalensemble is dedicated above all to the demanding choral works of the Romantic and Classical Modern periods.
From 2004 to 2020, Marcus Creed was the principal conductor of the SWR Vocal Ensemble. Under his direction, the SWR Vokalensemble has received numerous awards for its chamber music culture and stylistically confident interpretations, including the Annual Prize of the German Record Critics, the Echo Klassik, the Diapason d’Or, the Choc de la Musique and the Grand Prix du Disque. Yuval Weinberg has been artistic director since 2020.
