‘A-Ronne’ is the original piece of a vocal chamber play and the only one in the concert series that was not composed for the Neue Vocalsolisten and long before it was founded. This cult piece by Luciano Berio, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year, shows how music can be created from the flow of language, how absurd, comical, desperate and deeply philosophical communicative situations can arise from linguistic gestures. Cia Rinne is a border-crosser, and she too, the poet, conceptual and performance artist, moves with virtuosity and an insightful eye on the border between language, scene and musical expression.
A master of musical rhetoric is Georges Aperghis, who has composed many highly virtuoso chamber music works for the Neue Vocalsolisten. His ‘Passwords’ is a striking opening to the many months of vocal chamber music theatre.
