About the Tanzsuite films
The Tanzsuite mit Deutschlandlied was premiered in 1980 at the Donaueschinger Musiktagen, conducted by Sylvain Cambreling. Now, 35 years later, we filmed the piece once again under the direction of Cambreling, with the Staatsorchester Stuttgart and the Arditti Quartet. There were no sectional rehearsals with Helmut Lachenmann, but the approximately eight hours of orchestra rehearsals provided plenty of insightful material for the two rehearsal films. In the interview film, the composer goes into detail about the structure of the piece, in which he incorporates a variety of dances and »Deutschland-Lieder.« The DVD is given a special emphasis by a speech in which Lachenmann prepares the audience for the performance of the Tanzsuite before the concert.
